Just Us Girls #343 - Trend Week

This time at Just Us Girls it's Trend Week.  Judy is our hostess and she has chosen the trend of Vellum.

I just watched a wonderful video by Jennifer McGuire on Vellum Overlay Cards.  If you have a chance, take a look.  Her cards are beautiful!  This is my third attempt at this, and I'm very happy with it.  I think, though, I need to look for a heavier weight Vellum to lessen the warping a bit. I used my Altenew set Peony Bouquet.  I am loving this set.....such a gorgeous flower!

Please visit the Just Us Girls blog to see the beautiful cards the rest of the team and our GD, Aileen, have made this week.  I hope you will come and play along.

If you win Chic of the Week in any of our May challenges, you will be in the running to be chosen as our Guest Designer for the month of July.  Good luck!

Just Us Girls #271 - Trend Week

This week at Just Us Girls it's Trend Week, and Maria has picked Mixed Media as our inspiration. This technique requires the use of two or more artistic mediums in a single composition.

Here's my card

I started the background with a piece of patterned paper and applied the stencil to the top using Dap Lightweight Spackle that had been tinted with a light pink re-inker.  After it dried, I spritzed it with a sheer shimmer spritz in Frost and Sparkle.  I added some paint splatters using a paint brush and some Pearlescent watercolors.  The poinsettia stamp is from Power Poppy, and I colored it with Copic Markers.  I fussy cut it and popped it up on a beautiful Spellbinders die.  The sentiment was gold embossed.  I added a gold ribbon, bow and some pearls to the center of the flower that I colored with a gold Pitt pen.

Please visit the Just Us Girls blog to see the beautiful cards the rest of the team and our GD, Lee Ann Barrett, have made this week using the trend of Mixed Media.  I can't wait to see how you were inspired!

Just Us Girls #266 - Trend Week

This week at Just Us Girls it's Trend Week.  Chris is our hostess and she has picked the trend of Chalkboard.  Here is a link to a video at Make It Monday on this technique.  My card was very simple because I happened to have a stamp set made especially for this look, but you can create something similar using the stamps you have on hand.

Here's my card

The stamp set I used is called Poster Board Sentiments, and is available at Gina K. Designs.  I decided to make my chalkboard brown because it looked better with the colors I had planned to use. When I was in school all of the chalkboards were black, but today with the many different colors of chalkboard paint available, they come in all colors.  So have fun with it!  I put my chalkboard sentiment on a cute little tag and added some dash lines around the edge.  With the addition of some ribbon, a button and some enamel dots, the tag was complete.  The patterned paper I chose was some from my stash.  I know it came in a 12 x 12 pack, but the cover was torn off a long time ago, and I don't remember the name on it.  Thanks so much for coming by to look!

Just Us Girls #262 - Trend

This week at Just Us Girls it's Trend Week, and Sue T. has chosen Ombre as our inspiration.  The vision for my card came to me around midnight the other night as I my lying in bed trying to go to sleep.  I had to literally get out of bed, find the stamps and put them on my work table to help me remember the idea in the morning.  I actually do this quite often and seem to come up with some of my best ideas at this time of night. lol  It is with sadness that we will be saying goodbye to Sue T. at the end of this challenge.  I will miss her kind spirit and wonderful talent.  Best of luck, Sue, in all you do.

Here's my card

I started by clear embossing a wonderful stamp set from Reverse Confetti called So Many Stars on white card stock.  I sponged with 4 shades of blue ink from GKD, all listed below.  The two focal image die cuts are from Reverse Confetti and the Hello sentiment is from W Plus 9.  I used the in-lay technique on the star panel.  The hello die cut consists of four layers of card stock.  The top black layer and three different shades of blue underneath.  I, also, added some black and white twine and a black button.

Please visit the Just Us Girls blog to see the beautiful cards the rest of the team and our GD, Wanda Cullen, have made this week.  I can't wait to see how you are inspired by the fun Trend of Ombre.

Just Us Girls #258 - Trend Week

This week at Just Us Girls is Trend Week.  Vicki is hosting and she has chosen the trend of watercolor.  I missed the watercolor online class when it first came out, but recently I  took it as an independent class.  I haven't done a lot with it yet, so I was very happy when Vicki picked it for our challenge, and I was able to put my skills to good use.  Here's my watercolor butterfly.

I started with a piece of watercolor paper and wet it with a brush.  I knew I wanted to make it into a butterfly, so I started in the center with shades of turquoise and then worked my way out with shades of orange, melon & yellow.  When it was dry, I used the Memory Box Delia die to cut the solid butterfly.  I decided I wanted some texture, so I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder called Shower Blossom.  I gave it a spritz with some Tsukineko Sheer Shimmer Sparkle.  It's very had to see in the picture, but it has a subtle sparkle in person.  I used the Memory Box Finn die to make the black over butterfly and attached it with pop dots at the butterfly's body.  I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder called Mountain Meadow for the background.

Just Us Girls #253 - Trend

This week at Just Us Girls it's Trend Week, and Sue T. has chosen Washi-Tape as our inspiration.  I have only used Washi-Tape one other time, so it was fun revisiting this trend.

I used several strips of Washi-Tape to create the background and then ran it through a Swiss Dot Cuttlebug embossing folder.  The focal image is a set from Gina K. Designs called Million Little Things.  The sentiment is from a set called Flower Builders, also, from Gina K. Designs.

The recipe
GKD Million Little Things & Flower Builders
Cuttlebug Swiss Dot
Washi-Tape
Reverse Confetti Tag Me
Spellbinders Standard Circles & Lacy Circles

Please visit the Just Us Girls blog and see the beautiful cards the rest of the team and our Guest Designer, Kristie Goulet, have made this week.  Washi-Tape comes in so many wonderful colors and patterns.  I'm anxious to see what you come up with.
